In a nutshell:
Ideal location, friendly and accommodating staff, very clean rooms & amenities
Garden Home BNB is located in a relatively less busy and more quiet residential area in Yangon that's easily accessible via taxi. You can also walk from the area to Shwedagon Pagoda, one of the main attractions of Yangon.
Accommodation and Amenities
The room we booked was spacious and very clean, with large comfortable beds and a spotless bathroom. They provided bedroom slippers and toiletries as well. We got a peak into their other rooms and they were also as well maintained as the one we stayed in.Our room also came with a delicious breakfast, served at the garden restaurant.
We wanted to make sure we had bus tickets that would take us from Yangon to Bagan even before we started our trip, so a few weeks before we left for Myanmar we emailed the staff at Garden Home BNB to ask for help, and they promptly assisted us with purchasing the tickets. While we only stayed in Garden Home BNB on the last day of our Myanmar trip (it was our only full day in Yangon), we had to drop by the place on our first day after arriving from Kuala Lumpur to pick up our bus tickets.
We had come from two flights from Manila to KL and KL to Yangon and a pretty much sleepless night across two airports, and were facing another 12 hours in transit, this time on a bus en route to Bagan. On top of that, we had braved (rather foolishly in hindsight, but how were we supposed to know then?) the Burmese midday heat on foot in the hopes of doing some exploring before we left for Bagan. Suffice to say we badly needed a shower, but had nowhere to do so because our limited time in Yangon before we we needed to leave for Bagan made it impractical to check in to a room.
Fortunately, we (shyly) asked the staff at Garden Home BNB if we could take a quick shower in one of their vacant rooms before we left for our bus trip, and thankfully, they let us! We were extremely thankful to the staff for that favor, which definitely made the long journey to Bagan easier. (Bagan was worth the incredibly long journey though - check out my numerous posts of our 3 day, 2 night adventure here).
For its location and impressive accommodation and amenities, the rates at Garden Home BNB are incredibly reasonable. And really, the hospitality and friendliness of the staff are priceless.
There are limited food options around the area of Garden Home BNB, and the restaurant/bar within the guesthouse also has very little choices in its menu. If you're planning to stay here, make sure to grab a bite while you're out in the town before heading back to Garden Home BNB.
Credit cards are still virtually unheard of in Myanmar, even at places like Garden Home BNB. But they do accept US dollars as well as Burmese kyat, provided the former is in mint condition. That said, it's best to book and pay for your accommodations online, which is what we did to save us the hassle of bringing extra dollars and making sure that we didn't damage them during the trip. One less thing to worry about on a trip is always a good thing. We booked our accommodations for Garden Home BNB via agoda.com, which was a breeze!
In general Myanmar is experiencing an influx of travelers and the country's tourism industry is still catching up to the sudden demand for travel services. So book your accommodations in advance to ensure you have a place to stay. Try agoda.com or hostelworld.com for great deals and prices.
