Good Vibes, Good Friends, and Great Music at Wanderland 2013

It's magical, that moment when you're watching your favorite band perform and they start to play your favorite song. In a split second, right after that first note, everyone in the crowd seems to be thinking the same thing, which is in fact nothing, because you all just want to get lost in the music.

Add to that a lot of great friends and good vibes on a summery Saturday night in Manila and you have the first ever Wanderland Music Fest. Because really, when was the last time you laid out a mat on a field of grass?

I can't decide which part of the festival I liked most - running into so many friends from my past jobs and my current one (Metro Manila is a small world indeed), the great music (I came for Up Dharma Down and Neon Trees!), or the whole festival feel (it doesn't help that Tiff is hinting at wanting to go to Coachella next year, and Jen wants to check out the music festivals in Europe. Glastonbury! Phoenix is playing this year! *sigh*).

Festival Fashion
Juno and I walked around and took photos of people we didn't know and everyone was so nice and game to have their photos taken!

Juno aka Ms. Congeniality! :)

From Cube Dwellers to Hipsters
Friends from work! I wasn't able to take photos of everyone though, sorry about that!

Up Dharma Down
They were EPIC! My favorites from their set were "Parks", "Indak", "Luna", and "Tadhana". That's pretty much their entire set actually. The crowd loved them! Filipino Pride!

Neon Trees
The first song I ever heard of theirs was "Sins of My Youth" while shopping at Forever 21. One Google search of the band and I've loved them ever since. They're a great band to catch live because their energy on stage is just tremendous and their songs are perfect to scream-sing in a raging moshpit. They opened with "1983" which is also an all-time fave, and they played "Sins of My Youth" as well, much to my utter delight! But "Animal" was obviously the crowd favorite - everyone was jumping around and singing along, it was epic! I have footage on my GoPro but I don't know if I want to upload the raw file, and it's too short to edit into anything. Oh well. Anyway, they sang a cover too (does anyone know what the title of that one is?) and closed with "Everybody Talks". Also, girl drummers FTW!

Temper Trap
Ien and I sat back and caught up during Temper Trap's set which was a great, chill way to end the night. "Sweet Disposition" sounded great live!

We stayed back a bit and waited for the crowd to clear out before we drove home.

Props to Captain Morgan for being our favorite drink of the night! 'Till next time!

What a great looking concert venue! Going to see a favorite band or a festival filled with them has to be one of the best vacations ever; great post!

"Girl drummers FTW" --> I cheered her on kasi ang astig nya. I loved Wanderland. I hope they can keep this up. I'd love to see more bands brought here in this setting. I still have a Wanderland hangover and its almost been a week since :)

Was supposed to go here but a week before the event I decided not go anymore (ang loser ko lang).haha I suddenly realized that I'm missing a lot when people flood my IG/twitter timeline with Wanderland photos. Next year sasama na talaga ako.:D

Hi Marj! Yes, super astig nung girl drummer ng Neon Trees! Sana ok din next year! Which bands would you like in the lineup? :)

Daene | Filipina in Flip Flops said...

Hi James! Sayang, but it's ok, there's gonna be another one next year! Sana solid ulit yung lineup. :)

Sobrang dami ng nasa wishlist ko: the kills, xx, vampire weekend, phoenix, etc etc. Hahaha!

Daene | Filipina in Flip Flops said...

PHOENIX! Though I'm torn between having them included in a festival and an entire concert on their own. The xx are coming to Singapore in August! I'm still thinking if I should go or not.

Vampire Weekend was in Laneway weren't they? Target ko din yun next year if the lineup is solid. :)
